Nasal poyps can be associated with chronic infections, chronic allergies or even tumors. A full evaluation for nasal polyps will usually include a nasal endoscopy (telescope examination of the inside of the nose). A CT scan or even a biopsy of the nasal polyp may be recommended in certain cases.
Not all nasal polyps need to be removed surgically. Many patients can be treated effectively with medications alone, depending on the condition that lead to the formation of the polyps. Antibiotics and oral or topical nasal steroids may be prescribed.
